Fruits in general, contain two naturally occurring sugars, fructose,and glucose. These sugars exist without any added sugar or processing. Fruits with naturally occurring sugar, contain fiber or protein, which allows that naturally occurring sugar to be digested and assimilated at a slower rate, compared to added sugar (refined sugar), which is metabolized very quickly.The sugars in fruit, fructose, and glucose, are required by our bodiesto function properly. Our bodies depend on glucose for energy. Glucose can be likened to the aviation fuel to an airplane, the fuel we need to reason, move, and breathe.
Is The Serving of Fruits ever excessive?
A serving of fruit is roughly 15-20g of sugar which is not excessive for the needs of our bodies, compared to soft drinks. For instance, our brains need a minimum of 120g of carbohydrates to function daily. The portion size will definitely change depending on the fruit,but even if it is a very large mango with 30g of sugar, is still a reasonable amount of fuel for your body. In today's world, a majority of people do not eat enough fruit or don't consume fruits at all. The idea is to eat more and more fruits every day, irrespective ofthe quantity, which means the serving of fruits is never excessive.
The Nutrients In Fruits
Fruit also contains other healthy nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fibers, and phytochemicals. All whole fruit contains soluble and insoluble fiber, both of which are incredibly vital for GI function. A large number of our vitamins and minerals can be found in a variety of colored fruits. Phytochemicals, chemicals, or compounds that are found in plants that give them their color, taste, and smell, are exceptionally important for our overall health and well-being.
