"Male Sexual Problems, the giant that shakes the most influential of men" – Bolade, 2022

Male sexual health problems are way too common not to be addressed. This may not be too far from the truth, especially among the male gender, as it is not unpopular to find guys randomly having conversations amongst themselves about their bedroom prowess. Sexual problems can affect any man no matter his age, position, or influence

Generally, Sexual health problems do not affect general well-being; however, it takes a toll on self-esteem and general feelings of inadequacy. It is believed that a man's real strength is in his sexual prowess. However, this is not entirely true because male sexual problems are not just limited to erectile dysfunction and Ejaculation disorders.

Male sexual health problems range from Physical causes such as the Use of Prescription medications, Alcoholism, Drug Abuse, Smoking, and health conditions such as High Blood Pressure, Hormonal Imbalance, Diabetes, and High Cholesterol level to Psychological causes such as Depression, Marital Problems, Work-related stress, anxiety, etc.

Types of Male Sexual Problems

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION/IMPOTENCE

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. This single factor can remove joy from a relationship. This is particularly common as men get older. Therefore, it could be a concern amongst many young and older adults. This includes persistent trouble getting and keeping an erection and reduced sexual desire.

Male sexual desire takes complex processes from the brain, emotions, and blood vessels. This implies that mental and physical stress could cause or worsen erectile dysfunction.

EJACULATION DISORDERS

Contrary to popular notion, Ejaculation could be premature, delayed, or Retrograde.

Premature Ejaculation is popularly known as "2 minutes, 1 minute, indomie man".

This is the inability to delay orgasm and Ejaculation such that it occurs within a short period of sexual intercourse, leaving the other partner dissatisfied. Typically, Premature Ejaculation would be when Ejaculation occurs within 1 to 3 minutes of sexual intercourse or the inability to delay Ejaculation during sex nearly all the time.

Delayed Ejaculation occurs when Ejaculation takes a long time. This infers Ejaculation taking longer than desired or not happening at all. This implies the inability to attain orgasm. In some cases, this may be desirable for both partners. It is only undesirable when either partner is not comfortable with it.

Retrograde Ejaculation occurs when semen is forced back into the bladder instead of the penis. This is common in men with diabetes. It could also result from some medications' side effects or the aftermath of prostate surgery.

Ejaculation disorders are treatable with medications, counseling, and techniques.

PROLONGED ERECTION

This is also known as PRIAPISM. A prolonged erection of the penis may or may not occur due to sexual arousal. It is usually painful and should be treated as a medical emergency.

An erection that has lasted for at least 2hours is a medical emergency. Causes of Priapism include Certain blood disorders, Medication use, and Injury.

Priapism can occur in children with specific blood disorderssuch as sickle cell, where the blood in the penis cannot flow out, which continually sustains the erection.

LOW SEXUAL DESIRE/LOW LIBIDO

This means low desire or interest in sexual activities. It is not very uncommon for sexual desire to fall and rise from time to time. Libido can rise due to increased fitness activities, relationship pleasures, good health, and relaxation.

Men can have reduced libido due to medications, low testosterone levels, anxiety and depression, trauma, and certain medical conditions.

Living a healthy life is very crucial to having a healthy sex life.
