FOODS TO HELP YOU SLEEP

Sleep according to merriam webster dictionary is defined as a natural easily reversible periodic state of many living things that is marked by the absence of wakefulness and by the loss of consciousness of one's surroundings which is accompanied by a typical body posture,changes in brain activity and physiological functioning.
Medically,scientists have recommended that an Adult should sleep for at least 7-8 hours per day.
Without enough sleep,the body cannot function properly as you can't cheat nature.
Enough sleep keep's a person happy, lowers the risk of heart diseases and high blood pressure and also improves a person's mood and reasoning.
Foods that can help you sleep
There are several healthy foods that can help a person sleep due to the nutrients in the food.
Some of which are;
• walnut: Eating walnut Improves the quality of sleep of an individual due to the Tryptophan present which is a source of omega-3 fatty acids.
• Almonds: Almond Is one of the food that helps a person sleep well as they contain magnesium and zinc which regulates the sleep digest cycle.
• Bananas: Bananas also contain Tryptophan ,magnesiun and potassium which helps the muscle to relax well and improves sleep.
•Turkey: Holly klamer,MS,RDN,a Michigan-based registered dietitian nutritionist said Turkey is associated with sleepiness because it is a good source of the amino acid tryptopan.
In addition to tryptopan, Turkey and other meats provide many other amino acids.Therefore,it is not just a rush of tryptopan to the brain after eating turkey but rather a combination of amino acids. klamer says.
• sweet potatoes: Sweet potatoes has complex carbohydrates nutrients which produces the energy needed for sleep.mineral components like magnesium,potassium and vitamin B6.
Other foods that helps an individual sleep includes;
Some Nigerian local dishes from different tribes based on how they are being consumed are major contributing foods that helps a person sleep well;
- pap,milk and moi moi
- Amala and okro or Ewedu
- Ewa Agoyin( A special kind of already made beans)and bread
- Eba and Afang/Edikang ikong soup.
Some of the foods above is advisable not to eat in a place where you know you can't sleep for a long period so that you wouldn't find yourself "somewhere else".
