  • Federal Government suspends Tax on Imported Pharmaceuticals.
    President Bola Asked Tinubu has signed an executive order to suspend import duties and Value Added Tax on medical supplies imported into the country. This is so as to reduce the cost of locally produced pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical services. Muhammad Ali Pate, minister of Health and Social Welfare, announced this development, stating that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation is expected to take necessary actions towards codifying this order.

  • Prevention of HIV in Nigeria 
    Nigeria faces a critical challenge in preventing mother to child transmission of HIV and access to care for children living with HIV. The Minister of state for Health and social welfare has now established a National Committee on the prevention of mother to child transmission. This accelerating program is aimed at ensuring that pregnant women with Aids are well taken care of to prevent transmission to their babies.

  • NCDC Reports Surge in Cholera Outbreak Cases in Nigeria. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has reported a surge in Cholera cases across the country, with a 1,441 suspected, 65 confirmed and resulted in 30 deaths within January and June this year. The increase in cases is largely attributed to the intensifying rainy season which has worsened the spread.

  • NIMR Seeks Funding For Health Research In Nigeria 
    Nigeria Institute for Medical Research is calling for joint efforts in funding the course of health research in Nigeria. For the purpose of tackling diseases effectively with research. 

According to the Director General: Babatunde Salako, Nigeria needs to have a health research funding agency to support her health system and provide funding for health researchers.

    The current crisis the healthcare sector is facing is a failing healthcare sector due to migration of healthcare workers. 

Dr Blossom Maduafokwa, PRO. Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria, Lagos says: you can't build a healthcare system without a strong healthcare workforce. Nigeria's Minister for health and social welfare says Nigeria's healthcare workforce is about 400,000 that is grossly inadequate for Nigeria's healthcare needs.
