- Federal Government suspends Tax on Imported Pharmaceuticals.
President Bola Asked Tinubu has signed an executive order to suspend import duties and Value Added Tax on medical supplies imported into the country. This is so as to reduce the cost of locally produced pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical services. Muhammad Ali Pate, minister of Health and Social Welfare, announced this development, stating that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation is expected to take necessary actions towards codifying this order. - Prevention of HIV in Nigeria
Nigeria faces a critical challenge in preventing mother to child transmission of HIV and access to care for children living with HIV. The Minister of state for Health and social welfare has now established a National Committee on the prevention of mother to child transmission. This accelerating program is aimed at ensuring that pregnant women with Aids are well taken care of to prevent transmission to their babies. - NCDC Reports Surge in Cholera Outbreak Cases in Nigeria. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has reported a surge in Cholera cases across the country, with a 1,441 suspected, 65 confirmed and resulted in 30 deaths within January and June this year. The increase in cases is largely attributed to the intensifying rainy season which has worsened the spread.
